First and foremost…thanks to Cabinet Joint for creating the video featured in this post.

Typically these base filler organizers are offered in 3″, 6″ and 9″ widths. They are meant to fit between two base cabinets and installed during new construction or a re-model. (see diagram below)

There are nuances when installing these organizers in Face frame, inset or frameless style cabinetry. So you may have some application variances in your project.

When the filler organizer pullout is installed as the end cabinet or next to a dishwasher, you may want to reinforce the base with a platform that the unit can rest on.

Also, a piece of particle board or plywood which extends to the floor can be used on the side of the dishwasher for extra support.

You can also check the video out below for a bit of that process done by 7 Year Switch Home (may be inactive and re-direct to Facebook page). Also, a piece of particle board can be used along side the dishwasher as well. Fastening the filler to the existing cabinet should suffice with several screws.

One of the more important things is to make sure your product and cabinet are square. If it isn’t, the filler pullout can not properly close/open.

If you don’t have a flush end panel on your cabinet where the install will take place, you will need to shim out or use a small wafer piece to place in-between the filler and your existing base cabinet.

These base organizer fillers come as a complete product with internal slides both on the top and bottom which offer enhanced stability. They are offered in either soft-close or non-soft-close guides.

The shelves are adjustable as well. It does not come with a front panel, so you will need an existing one to re-attach after the unit is installed. Your decorative knob or pull can then be added to pull the filler in and out.

What’s the difference between a filler organizer and standard organizer?

There is quite a big difference between these two options, but the term “base organizer” can get thrown around in many ways. Fillers are used in the dead space often found between two existing cabinets and can only be incorporated during new construction or re-models.

The traditional base organizer like the Rev-A-Shelf 448 Series is retro-fitted into existing cabinetry with certain set opening widths. These generally need a full height cabinet. However there are reduced height products that can be used with a drawer above the organizer.

Filler Pull Out Product Dimensions

It is best to consult with your contractor or a manufacturers specification guide for exact dimensions. The majority of base filler organizers from Rev-A-Shelf will have 23″ depths and 30″ heights. These are the physical dimensions of the actual filler pullout. The filler widths will range from 3 inches to 9 inches.

Other Uses

Most consider these dedicated spice organizers. That is certainly a good use for these unique pullouts, but ideas are endless. Rev-A-Shelf even has a stainless steel magnetic pullout with pegs. This is perfect for hanging and storing dog supplies, cleaning accessories or crafts. There are also wall and vanity cabinet fillers that function and install identically to the base cabinet versions.

Organizing your home just gets easier and easier with tons of solutions for every space. These filler pullouts are a great product to consider using on your next project.
