Most base cabinets in the kitchen can have room for a single bin trash pull out or a double bin trash pull out.
We highlighted some double trash pull-outs within our best trash pull outs for kitchens post, but in this post the double bin options are what I’ll focus on.
Most of these options listed are also offered in single pull-outs as well. The version will simply depend on the width, height and depth dimensions of your cabinet.
If you’re limited on space and all you have is a tight area under the faucet, there are also smaller trash pull-outs that fit under a sink.
With that said, it’s always helpful to have a tape measure handy and triple check the dimensions of your cabinet and make sure the double trash pull-outs will co-exist.

What Is a Double Trash Pull Out
A double trash pull out is a complete pull out that typically contains dual waste bins within the frame and slide system.
Single bin versus double bin trash storage is as simple as having just one bin versus two bins within the slide out frame.
The double bins can be various sizes including 27 quart, 30 quart, 35 quart or even 50 quart. This will vary depending on the trash pull out brand.
The trash bins usually sit sideways and are front to back, but occasionally, they will sit longways.
Why Do I Need One
Sometimes the single trash pull outs are not utilizing the entire width of the cabinet space and putting two singles side-by-side just won’t work.
Or, perhaps you want to move away from a standard step-can and need a completely hidden option that stays inside your base cabinet.
Either way, incorporating a trash pull out within a kitchen is becoming standard practice for many kitchen designers, cabinet makers and even homeowners themselves.
By having a complete out-of-the-box product, pre-assembled trash pull outs can also save our DIY folks time too. After parts and labor, DIY pull out trash products can often times end up costing the same.
With heavily used products like waste containers, it’s important to at least consider the benefits and features of modern day solutions from great brands like Rev-A-Shelf and SimpleHuman.
Types of Cabinetry for Trash Pull Outs
Do you have a full height cabinet or a cabinet with a drawer above? Either way, depending on the double trash pull-out size, they can accommodate each type of cabinet.
Some other cabinetry aspects to consider are whether or not you have Face Frame, Frameless or Inset cabinetry.
These can affect the width and depth measurements when searching for a double trash pull-out, so make sure you are aware of what style you have.

How Wide Are Base Cabinets and What Size Will Fit?
Trash pull outs usually fit in standard base cabinet widths of 12”, 15”, 18”, 21” or even 24”.
The depth of traditional base cabinets is 24” and a full height base cabinet is 34.5” with a countertop of 1.5” for a total of 36”.
Be sure to know the fully assembled dimensions of the pull out trash can as it will need to fit in the interior of the cabinet with room to slide in and out.
An example would be…a 12” wide pull out trash can would work within a standard 15” cabinet opening width.
More Dimensions to Be Aware of
This is the most crucial part when looking for a pull out trash product that will work for your application. There are going to be widths, depths and heights that will make or break your project.
Make sure you verify the exact dimensions of your cabinet opening versus the physical product dimensions of the double trash pull out you are looking for.
Again, as an example: a 12” wide waste bin would work within a 15” cabinet opening width and so on.
